The Garden Club of Dallas

Gardening feeds the soul

Welcome to The Garden Club of Dallas

A gathering of Dallas area gardeners getting together for fun and education

This is how it all started…

Originally started in 1941 as The First Men’s Garden Club of Dallas and affiliated with the The Men’s Garden Clubs of America, we incorporated in 1971 and expanded the membership to include women in 2014. In 2023 we incorporated again as The Garden Club of Dallas now affiliated with The Gardeners of America.

The Club is composed of members with a wide range of horticultural interests and expertise. Programs are varied throughout the year in an attempt to be of either specific or general interest to all members. Although special programs (outside speakers) are regularly presented, some of the principle benefits of the monthly meeting is the camaraderie, sharing of information and experiences between members.

Anna Williams

This new year brings some changes. First, I would like to introduce myself. I am Anna Williams, the new President of the Garden Club of Dallas. A huge thanks to Allen Gage, who has served as a wonderful president for many years. Thanks to the many people who work behind the scenes to provide information programs, a wonderful newsletter, and community to all the members and visitors, I will continue the wonderful work of the last 83 years of this garden club with the open-mindedness and anticipation of learning new things and welcoming anyone who is interested in; gardening.

January is the perfect month to rest, dream, plan, and prepare for the upcoming year. The winter weather brings much-needed time of rest for the gardener and the soil. There is time to dream of what you want to grow and new plants to try. Dreams of weed-free, abundant harvests, whether they be of food for flowers, call them arboretum dreams. There is time to gaze at seed catalogs and time to take into consideration what did and did not work last season. Plans can be made to bring that dream into reality. And perhaps a little soil prep if the weather is good.

The programs this year will be as interesting and informative as the past years. They will give you ideas on how to make gardening easier and successful. It’s always nice to learn how to work smarter. Working easier is so much better than working hard. Hard is just difficult. If you have a friend who would like to learn more about gardening, please invite them! This club is for the novice to the master gardeners and all between. Remember, if you bring someone who joins, you get next year’s dues for free!
